Alternate fingering means typing a key with a finger other than its textbook one, in specific contexts, to dodge same-finger bigrams. Which alternates exist depends entirely on the layout. These are computed from your layout's geometry and an English word list, ranked by how many same-finger bigrams each one removes.
They are candidates, not rules. Run the baseline and the alternate drill a few times each and the lab compares your actual speed on the affected pairs.
